Introduction
The Systems Security Certified Practitioner (SSCP) certification is a global IT security certification. The SSCP recognizes your hands-on, technical abilities and practical experience. It shows you have the skills to implement, monitor and administer IT infrastructure using information security policies and procedures — ensuring the confidentiality, integrity and availability of data.
Official courseware is developed by ISC2– creator of the SSCP CBK – to ensure your training is relevant and up to date. Our instructors are verified security experts who hold the SSCP and have completed intensive training to teach ISC2content.
Audience profile
The SSCP is designed for cybersecurity and IT/ICT professionals who have hands-on responsibility for designing, implementing and maintaining cyber, information, software and infrastructure security, whether in a cyber-dedicated role or as part of their day-to-day IT/ICT position. Roles include:
- Network Security Engineer
- IT/Systems/Network Administrator
- Security Analyst
- Systems Engineer
- Security Consultant/Specialist
- Security Administrator
- Systems/Network Analyst
- Database Administrator
- Individuals operating in a security operations centre (SOC) environment performing the role of incident handler, SIEM analyst, forensics specialist, threat Intel researcher, etc.
Pre-requisites
Candidates must have a minimum of one-year cumulative paid work experience in one or more of the seven domains of the ISC2 SSCP Common Body of Knowledge (CBK).
- Part-time work and internships may also count towards your experience
- Full-Time Experience: Your work experience is accrued monthly
Thus, you must have worked a minimum of 35 hours/week for four weeks to accrue one month of work experience.
- Part-Time Experience: Your part-time experience cannot be less than 20 hours a week and no more than 34 hours a week
- 1040 hours of part-time = 6 months of full-time experience
- 2080 hours of part-time = 12 months of full-time experience
- Internship: Paid or unpaid internship is acceptable. You will need documentation on company/organisation letterhead confirming your position as an intern. If you are interning at a school, the document can be on the registrar’s stationery

Associated certifications and exam
Associate of ISC2: A candidate who doesn’t have the required experience may become an Associate of ISC2 by successfully passing the SSCP examination. The Associate of ISC2 will then have two years to earn the one year of cumulative paid work experience in one or more of the seven domains of the ISC2 SSCP Common Body of Knowledge (CBK).
